COLUMBIA — Jeremy Shope’s Whitley County Colonels wrapped up regular season play on a high note, capturing their eighth win in a row by defeating Adair County, 5-3.
The Colonels (25-9) used a four-run fifth inning to take control of the game, despite being outhit, 10-8.
“Good win for our team,” Shope said. “Our team is finding ways to win. We’re getting pitchers that are competing and getting some good defense. Proud of this team in how much they have grown.”
Jason’s Nunley continued his red-hot hitting at the plate, connecting with his second home run of the season while finishing with two RBI, and a run scored. Matthew Wright finished with a triple, double, three RBI, and one run scored while Bryce Anderson delivered two hits and scored twice. EJ Allen, Tyler Rose, and Jerrod Croley finished with a hit apiece while Hunter Wilson scored once.
Allen started the game, lasting four innings while giving up five hits, and two earned runs. He struck out two batters. Bradyn Bargo got the win, improving to 9-2 while tossing two innings. He allowed four hits and one earned run while striking out three batters. Trey Walton recorded the save after pitching a scoreless and hitless seventh inning.
