North Laurel High School’s Wesley Oliver and Camden Craig Triumph at Major League Fishing State Junior Championship at Dale Hollow Lake

In an exciting display of skill and teamwork, Wesley Oliver and Camden Craig emerged victorious at the Major League Fishing State Junior Championship held at Dale Hollow Lake Saturday, May 18th. The dynamic duo clinched the top spot with a total weight of 8.64 pounds, showcasing their exceptional angling abilities.

Dale Hollow Lake, renowned for its abundance of smallmouth bass, provided a challenging and competitive environment for the young anglers. Despite the lake’s reputation, Oliver and Craig employed a  strategy that set them apart from their peers. Instead of targeting the more common smallmouth, they found success by focusing on largemouth bass in offshore flats. This bold approach paid off.

Their performance was a standout, not only securing them the championship title but also earning them the distinction of catching the big fish of the tournament—a formidable 2.75-pound largemouth bass. This impressive catch was a key component of their total weight and highlighted their ability to adapt and innovate under competitive pressure.

The tournament tested the junior anglers’ ability to adapt to changing conditions and employ various techniques to reel in the biggest catches. Oliver and Craig showcased their extensive knowledge and experience, meticulously planning their strategy and executing it with precision. Their total catch weight of 8.64 pounds outshined their competitors, underscoring their strategic prowess and dedication.

“We have an outstanding group of young anglers, so excited for the future of fishing at North Laurel. I am proud of these two guys. Wesley and Camden are going to be winning tournaments for the next 5 years for us, I am already excited for next season. As they prepare for the World Championship, the future looks incredibly promising for these talented young anglers,” Coach Nathan Stewart said.

As they celebrate their well-deserved victory, Wesley Oliver and Camden Craig have their sights set on an even bigger stage. Both anglers will move on to compete in the Major League Fishing World Championship later this summer. This prestigious event will provide another opportunity for them to showcase their talents and aim for even greater achievements.
