Defending state champion Whitley County earns region bid with 15-0 win over Williamsburg 

WILLIAMSBURG — The defending state champions wasted little time locking up a berth into next week’s 13th Region Tournament.

Whitley County (26-9) scored 11 runs in the first inning ing against Williamsburg (2-22), and never looked back during its 15-0 victory in three innings.

The Colonels outhit the Yellow Jackets, 10-2, and took advantage of five errors to pick up the 15-run win.

“Good to get a win in the first round of district to advance to the region tournament next week,” Whitley County coach Jeremy Shope said. “Proud of our guys for advancing to the region tournament again. We came out with a vengeance and took care of business from the start. We will refocus for tomorrow. We will play a good team tomorrow for the 50th District championship.”

Bryce Anderson connected with a two-run homer and finished with a hit, two RBI, and two runs scored while EJ Allen had two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored. Ronald Osborne finished with two hits, an RBI, and a run scored while Tyler Rose collected two RBI and scored twice. Dee Parker had a hit, three stolen bases, and two runs scored while Ty Petrey finished with a hit, and two RBI.

Christian Wilson got the win, improving to 4-1 while striking out five batters and allowing only two hits in the shutout out win.

Henry Bowling and Hayden Kleinert finished with a hit apiece for Williamsburg while Kleinert took the loss, allowing five hits and eight earned runs. Jacob Jones also pitched, giving up six hits and five earned runs while striking out two batters.
