WILLIAMSBURG — Corbin’s Will Freeman turned in one of his best efforts of his career during Tuesday’s 50th District Baseball Tournament title game, and it came at the right time.
Freeman limited Whitley County to only seven hits and two runs while striking out four batters in the Redhounds’ 6-2 win on Tuesday.
Freeman got the job done on the mound while Noah Cima and Cam Estep came up huge at the plate.
Estep delivered a three-run homer while Cima delivered a home run as well. Estep finished with a hit, three RBI and one run scored while Cima collected two hits, an RBI and one run scored.
“Super-proud of this team, we battled, fought through some adversity and found a way,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Will Freeman was a dog. I keep saying it, this group loves to work and make it fun to show up everyday.”
Whitley County (26-10) jumped out to a 2-0 lead but Corbin (27-10) exploded for five runs in the fourth inning before adding an insurance run in the seventh inning.
Kade Elam finished with a hit, a run scored and an RBI while Walker Landrum had a hit and scored once. Lucas Tarvin had a hit while Bradric Helton drove in a run.
EJ Allen took the loss, allowing two hits and four earned runs in 3 1/3 of an inning. He struck out two batters. Trey Walton tossed 1 2/3 of scoreless innings while Brady Bargo tossed two innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out a batter.
Allen led Whitley County with two hits and an RBI while Bryce Anderson finished with two hits and a run scored. Ronald Osborne drove in a run while Matthew Wright and Chris Cureton had a hit apiece. Dee Parker scored once.
