Corbin’s Quinn Maguet and Nate Hill capture 13th Region doubles championship

LONDON — The Corbin boys’ tennis team continued its successful run by having the doubles team of Quinn Maguet and Nate Hill capture the 13th Region Tournament Doubles championship on Tuesday.
Fresh off of winning the Redhounds’ 23rd consecutive regional team championship, Corbin continued to impress during the regional singles and doubles individual tournaments.
John Ball finished as the singles runner-up while Tanner Marcum turned in a solid effort, advancing to the singles regional semis.
The doubles team of Jacob Frazier and Connor Middleton reached the doubles finals before falling to Maguet/Hill.
“After winning our 23rd consecutive team regional championship last week, the boys were looking forward to the individual tournament and they did extremely well with Quinn winning his fourth doubles tournament, and first with Nate Hill,” Corbin coach Eric Maguet said. “Quinn has had quite the career, winning his first one back as a seventh grader with Peyton Hamlin, then post-covid, he won two with Dylan Koen before winning the singles championship last year. He switched back to doubles this year with Nate knowing they had the potential to make a deep run in the state tournament. The state draw is Thursday and we are hopeful to get a top four seed. Nate has played great all year long being a great teammate for Quinn for his last year. He won the doubles region last year so had some experience.
“So proud of Jake and Connor, they were doubles partners all year long and really gelled together,” he added. “Being region runner-ups as the No. 2 seed was a great accomplishment. They didn’t lose a singles region match all season until the finals.
“John played his heart out coming up just short in the singles finals,” Maguet continued. “After losing the first set 6-1 and being down 4-1 in the second set, he fought his way back to win 7-6 before losing the tiebreaker. I’m more proud of him not giving up and the sportsmanship he displayed more than anything. Tanner Marcum lost in the semis but did qualify for the state tournament for the first time, so we are all happy for him. He has been a great asset to our team for years.”
