LONDON — South Laurel’s Will Wagers captured the 13th Region Boys’ Tournament singles championship by outlasting Corbin’s John Ball in the finals.
Wagers won the first set with ease, 6-1, and built a 4-1 edge in the second set before seeing Hill fight back and win, 7-6.
Despite the loss in the second set, Wagers never buckled. He fought back and clinched the championship winning, 1-0 (5).
Wagers entered the tournament as the top seed in the singles tournament. He posted an impressive 4-0 mark which included wins over Whitley County’s Garrett Sharp (6-0, 6-0), Clay County’s Jordan Begley (6-0, 6-0), Corbin’s Tanner Marcum (6-0, 6-1), and Corbin’s John Ball in the finals.
