WALK-OFF WINNER: Corbin’s Kade Elam connects with grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to give Redhounds 7-3 win

BARBOURVILLE — When Corbin and Jackson County meet on the diamond, you can expect to throw both teams’ records out of the window.

Just three years ago, the Generals pulled off one of the biggest upsets in 13th Region Tournament history by surprising the Redhounds with a 10-6 loss in first round action.

Jackson County almost pulled off the feat again during Tuesday’s first round action of the 13th Region Tournament, but in the end, Corbin’s Kade Elam connected with a walk-off grand slam to give the Redhounds a hard-fought 7-3 win.

“Proud of our guys, they continued to fight and found a way,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “All wins are good wins this time of year.”

Corbin fell behind 2-0 in the opening of the fourth inning before tying the game at two apiece in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Redhounds took a short-lived 3-2 advantage in the bottom of the sixth inning before the Generals tied the game at three apiece in the top of the seventh.

Jackson County worked some two-out magic to tie the game after Corbin’s Kade Elam recorded the first two outs to begin the seventh inning.

Tate Truett connected with a two-pout single and advances to second in the throw while Tydus Summers drove in the game-tying run with a single to right field.

The game wouldn’t be tied for long.

Lucas Tarvin led the bottom of the seventh inning with a single while Noah Cima followed with a double to put runners on second and third. Walker Landrum was intentionally walked to load the bases, setting up Elam’s grand slam.

Elam finished the game with a hit, four RBI, and one run scored while Landrum connected with a home run and finished with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Cam Estep had a hit and an RBI while Cima finished with a hit and a run scored. Tarvin, Jeremiah Gilbert, and Mikey Neal finished with a hit apiece.

Elam started the game and lasted 6 2/3 of an inning while allowing six hits and one earned run. He struck out eight batters. Will Freeman got the win, recording an out while allowing a hit.

Summers and Elijah Thomas led Jackson County with a hit, and an RBI apiece. Lucas Elam, Truett and Caden Farmer finished with a hit and a run scored apiece while Ashton Clemons had a hit.

Clemons tossed six innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out four batters. Thomas took the loss, allowing three hits and four earned runs.
