BARBOURVILLE — The Harlan Green Dragons punched their ticket into Thursday’s 13th Region Tournament semifinals by rallying to defeat Barbourville on Tuesday, 12-8.
After scoring two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game at two apiece, the Green Dragons fell behind 7-2 in the top of the second inning.
But Harlan never gave up.
The Green Dragons chipped away at their deficit, scoring a run in the bottom the second before adding nine runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 12-8 lead.
The Tigers never recovered.
Donavon Montanaro led Harlan with two hits, three RBI, and one run scored while Luke Luttrell went 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. Brody Owens delivered a hit, two RBI, and two runs scored while Jake Brewer was 2-for-3 with an RBI, and two runs scored. Jared Moore collected a hit, an RBI, and two runs scored while Eli Freyer finished with a hit and two runs scored. Chris Rouse also scored in the win.
Luttrell started the game and lasted 1 2/3 of an inning while allowing four hits and two earned runs. Moore got the win, pitching five innings while giving up a hit and no earned runs. He struck out five batters.
Colby Peters led Barbourville with a hit, three RBI and one run scored while Connor West was 2-for-3 with two RBI. Ty Clark had a hit, an RBI and a run scored while Luke Hillard drove in a run and scored once. Brayden Sowders finished with a hit and scored a run while Sam Buchanan scored twice.
