Tigers survive scare against Bell County, record 6-4 win 

BARBOURVILLE — Jason Smith’s Clay County Tigers survived to play for another day, but in turn, they had to use some of their key pitchers to advance to Thursday’s semifinal action of the 13th Region Baseball Tournament.

Clay County fought back from a 2-0 deficit and a 4-2 deficit to knock off Bell County, 6-4.

Talan Marcum started the game, pitching 3 2/3 of an inning while allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out three batters. Tiger ace Brandin Crawford also pitched, logging 3 1/3 of an inning while surrendering a hit and no earned runs while finishing with eight strikeouts.

Clay County tied the game at four apiece in the bottom of the fifth before going ahead for good in the bottom of the sixth with two runs.

Tyson Wagers led the way with two hits and an RBI while Tate Rice finished with a hit and two RBI. Crawford added a hit and an RBI while added a hit and scored once. Ethan Jackson also scored a run.
