BARBOURVILLE — Two five run innings proved to be all the Corbin Redhounds needed to advance to Friday’s 13th Region Baseball Tournament championship game.
Corbin pushed across five runs in the bottom of the second inning and accomplished the feat again in the bottom of the fifth inning on its way to an easy 13-1 win over Harlan.
Cody Philpot’s squad didn’t need any late-game heroics against the Green Dragons thanks to finishing with 15 hits while taking advantage of three errors by Harlan and three walks.
The Redhounds received a stellar effort by Bradric Helton on the mound. Helton threw a complete game, allowing only two hits and one earned run while striking out 12 batters.
Corbin has only used three pitchers during its first two wins, and will have a well-stocked pitching staff ready for the title game.
“Really proud of these guys,” Corbin coach Cody Philpot said. “Bradric was really good for us on the mound and we did a good job at the plate. Executed well to get things started and then hit all up and down the lineup.”
Helton also led the way at the plate with a 4-for-4 effort while Noah Cima connected with a home run while driving in three runs and scoring once. Clay Botner had two hits, two RBI and one run scored while Lucas Tarvin continued to swing a hot bat, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Cam Estep delivered a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to secure the 12-run victory. He finished 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Kade Elam delivered two hits while Jeremiah Gilbert finished with a hit and scored once.
Jared Moore led the Green Dragons with a home run, an RBI, and a run scored while Aiden Johnson also had a hit.
