HITTING ON ALL CYLINDERS: Lady Redhounds reel off sixth straight win, sweeps South Laurel in three sets

For those that thought this was going to be a rebuilding year for Vanessa Ross’ Corbin Lady Redhounds, think again.

Since starting off the season with a 1-2 mark, Corbin has reeled off six straight wins which included Thursday’s three-set win over 50th District rival South Laurel.

Corbin has now won 11 matches in a row against the Lady Cardinals while defeating South Laurel four straight games in three sets.

Despite graduating a ton of talent from last season’s 13th Region championship squad, Ross has done a fantastic job in building Corbin (7-3) into a region contender again.

“Tonight, I felt like our girls jelled together,” Ross said. “We were communicating, making smart plays, and shaking off mistakes. They had the fire, heart, and determination to go out there and win tonight in 3 sets. An amazing district win for our team tonight. As always it’s a great day to be a Corbin Redhound.”

South Laurel (3-4) struggled in the first set, and could never get back into the match. The Lady Redhounds won 25-11 to open the match before pulling off consecutive 25-20 wins in the second and third sets, respectively.

Corbin will be back in action Monday on the road against Rockcastle County while South Laurel will host Whitley County on Tuesday.
