HARLAN — Harlan County made history on Monday, picking up its first-ever win in volleyball action against South Laurel.
Before Monday’s matchup, the two teams had played five times with the Lady Cardinals winning all five matches.
The streak was ended after Harlan County put together a solid effort to defeat South Laurel, 25-9, 25-15.
The win improved the Lady Black Bears to 1-0 while the Lady Cardinals falls to 0-1.
“Harlan County had a lot of really good servers that we struggled to receive, which bled into the rest of our game and pushed us into a lot of errors that shouldn’t have been made,” South Laurel coach Shelley Nunley said. “We’re leaving with a lot of things that we need to work on, but it’s only the first game and we expect to see corrections and improvements in the coming weeks.”
