SOMERSET — It might have taken five sets, but the Corbin Lady Redhound volleyball team registered win No. 1 on Tuesday by surviving a five-set match against Somerset Christian, 3-2.
“It was a hard-fought match, and our girls showed incredible grit and determination to pull out the win in five sets,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “
“I’m incredibly proud of their effort,” he added. “Tonight, we learned a lot about what we need to work on—there’s always room for improvement. We’ll celebrate this victory tonight, but we know the work continues, and we’ll be back in the gym tomorrow to fine-tune our game. Go Hounds.”
The Lady Redhounds looked to be control, winning the first two sets, 25-22, and 25-23, but Somerset Christian responded by winning the next two sets, 25-21, and 25-23, evening the match at two sets apiece.
Corbin did just enough to pull out the win, escaping with a 15-12 victory in the fifth set.
The Lady Redhounds will be back in action Thursday at home against Wayne County.
