JELLICO, TENN. — Lynn Camp coach Darrell Hendrix made no doubt about how important his team’s season-opener was.
Despite it not being a district game, Hendrix felt his team needed a win to open the season on a positive note.
And, the Wildcats did just that.
Lynn Camp (1-0) fought back from a 13-7 deficit, receiving a couple of touchdowns from DJ Wren to knock off the Blue Devils, 20-14.
“I’m very proud of my kids, they felt really hard tonight and saw all their work from the summer pay off,” Hendrix said. “The boys could’ve gave up in the last two minutes, but they kept fighting and made some huge plays down the stretch to keep them from scoring.
“DJ Wren had a big night and scored a couple of times for us,” he added. “David Bargo got the W tonight with his first varsity start and really showed great leadership at quarterback. Ethan Chaffin had a big game on defense with some deflections and an interception. Overall, this was a team win and everybody stepped up, made the big plays when we needed them most.”
