CORBIN — Corbin ran its regular season win streak to 39 games after shutting down Pikeville in the Cumberland Falls Pigskin Classic on Friday.
The Redhounds (1-0) scored four minutes into the game and never looked back during their 22-7 victory, leading to Luke Salmons’ first win as Corbin’s coach.
The Redhounds’ opening drive went just the way it was scripted. Corbin moved down field as Kade Elam’s 37-yard touchdown pass to Noah Cima gave the Redhounds a 7-0 lead at the 8:05 mark of the first quarter.
Defense played a big role in the Redhounds’ second touchdown of the game.
NaShawn Brooks picked off a pass and raced 40 yards before finding pay dirt to give Corbin a 14-0 advantage with 1:22 remaining in the first quarter.
The Redhounds continued their dominance in the second half as Elam’s eight-yard touchdown run gave his team a 22-0 advantage with 9:10 remaining in regulation.
Pikeville got on the scoreboard with 6:04 remaining in the game thanks to a 52-yard touchdown reception but the damage had already been done.
