Lady Yellow Jackets capture Williamsburg All ‘A’ Invitational championship

WILLIAMSBURG — Dirk Berta’s Williamsburg Lady Yellow Jackets volleyball team is off to one of their best starts in program history after improving to 5-1 while capturing its own Williamsburg All ‘A’ Invitational championship.

The Lady Yellow Jackets picked up a win over Barbourville (2-0) and Owsley County (2-0) in pool play before dropping a 2-1 loss to Hazard.

After advancing to the tournament part of the invitational, Williamsburg caught fire, defeating Jackson County (2-0), and then Hazard (3-0) in the championship game.

“We are very proud of the girls and how they worked together as a team today,” Berta said. “Overall, we had a great day playing against teams from two different regions and out of state — Jellico, Tenn. We’re looking forward to next week, getting into district play, going to South Laurel and then playing Jackson County again. Go Jackets.”
