LONDON — Many prognosticators didn’t know what to expect out of two-time defending 13th Region champion Whitley County this season.
Despite being hit hard by graduation, the Lady Colonels don’t look like they’ve missed a beat.
They ran their record to a perfect 3-0 after upending North Laurel Monday with a 25-17, 21-15, 25-11, and 25-12 win.
The loss dropped North Laurel to 0-2.
25-17, 21-25, 25-11, 25-12 victory.
“I think this was a statement win for our team,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “To come on the road and perform like we did against a top team in the 13th Region in North Laurel is outstanding. I’m very proud of our girls. They were ready from the first serve and stayed focused throughout. We had to tweak our defense some after dropping the second set, but our girls did what we asked of them.
“They were having fun and responded well to a little pressure,” he added. “We have all the elements to be really special and we are heading in the right direction. We still have areas to improve upon, but I’m confident that we will. This is a fun team to watch.”
