Lady Redhounds remain unbeaten, survive five-set thriller against PSW

CORBIN — The 13th Region’s top ranked team kept their unbeaten streak alive on Monday but it wasn’t easy.

Corbin fell behind, 2-1, to Southwestern before rallying to win the final two sets to pull off a 3-2 win while remaining unbeaten at 3-0.

The Lady Redhounds won the first set, 25-22, before losing the next two sets, 21-25, and 19-25.

Corbin won the fourth set, 26-24, before wrapping up the win with a 15-11 victory in the fifth set.

“Hats off to a great Southwestern team,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “These are the kinds of matches we need to best prepare us for the postseason. That was two high-powered offenses and defenses going at each other for 5 sets. We absolutely could not have pulled this out without Coach Nikki and Coach Lauren. Having those extra sets of eyes and volleyball IQ is such an asset.

“As a coach, you want to see your athletes ride the roller coaster of ups and downs and find a way to come out on top,” she added. “We’re going to use these experiences to identify our weaknesses and strengths. Now, we need to rest up and head to Bell tomorrow. As always, it’s a great day to be a Redhound.”
