South Laurel suffers first loss with 3-1 setback to GRC

LONDON — Monday’s battle of the Cardinals didn’t go the way South Laurel wanted as George Rogers Clark (GRC) handed Brooks Cawood’s squad its first loss of the season with a 3-1 victory.

GRC took a 1-0 lead early in the match before South Laurel’s Liam Zik tied the game in the second half with a PK.

GRC put the game away with two goals late in the second half to secure the win.

“GRC came and just outhustled us today,” Cawood said. “We came out flat and never really got a good rhythm going.  Credit to GRC, they came and played the game we were hoping to play. They connected passes and created several opportunities on goal.

“Going into half time, I challenged the boys to come out and fight in the second half,” he added. “We had some really good looks at the goal but it just wasn’t our night. Our boys did play until the final whistle.  We just have to take what happened today and learn from it. I think if we would have played with more energy and discipline, the outcome could have been better.”
