HAZARD — After suffering a heartbreaking shootout defeat to rival Corbin in Monday’s Class 2A, Section 7 championship game, Whitley County showed a heart of a champion by responding in a big way, defeating Hazard 1-0 on the road.
Kadence Grubb scored the game’s lone goal while teammate Levi Moses had the assist. Keeper Luke Faulkner turned in a stellar game, finishing with 11 saves.
“We battled hard for this one, coming off a heartbreaker last night, I’m proud of how we played tonight,” Whitley County coach Michael Branham said. “My midfield stepped up big tonight and maintained possession well. Keeper Luke Faulkner is playing well right now, he made a crucial penalty kick save in the first half. We kept attacking until finally Kadence Grubb connected on a Levi Moses free kick. Glad to come away with a win in a tough road match after playing last night.”
