WILLIAMSBURG — North Laurel girls soccer coach Kayla Bargo didn’t know what to expect in Tuesday’s 49th District matchup between her Lady Jaguars and Whitley County.
She knew her team was coming off a hardfought win just the day before while playing in 90 degree heat.
North Laurel responded well, and eased Bargo’s concerns by jumping out on the Lady Colonels before pulling off a 3-1 win to improve to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 against district foes. The loss dropped Whitley County to 0-3 overall and 0-1 against 49th District opponents.
Presley Thompson led North Laurel with two goals while Lauren Crouch added a goal. Autumn Sawyers scored the Lady Colonels’ lone goal.
“Coming off a hard fought win on Monday in the crazy heat, I wasn’t sure how much we would have left in the tank,” Bargo said. “Our girls came out strong though and competed to the end. I’m extremely proud of their effort the last two days. We saw a lot of good things tonight from both the offense and defense and really like how things are shaping up. On to the next one.”
