STEARNS — The Corbin Lady Redhounds are now 8-0 and Class 2A, Section 7 champions after unseating defending 13th Region champion Whitley County in the title game in straight sets, winning, 2-0.
The Lady Redhounds ran the table during Saturday’s tournament, defeating Bell County, 2-0, and Knox Central, 2-0, before rolling past the Lady Colonels, who fell to 6-1 after posting a 2-1 tournament record.
“We came in today and took care of business,” Corbin coach Krystal Jones said. “Any time you bring home a trophy, it’s a good day, but in our eyes, the job is only halfway done. We started with a lot of energy this morning and were able to maintain that level of intensity for three games, and six sets.
“It feels like everything we’ve been working on this summer is starting to click for the girls,” she added. “It’s been so exciting to watch them improve night after night. There is no ceiling for this team. I can’t make a statement without thanking the coaches, parents, fans, and all of our girls. Without their energy, effort, and support, none of this would be possible.
“We’re going to celebrate this championship this weekend, and then it’s back to work for two tough region games next week,” Jones continued. “As always, it’s a great day to be a Redhound.”
Corbin’s all tournament team members were: Caroline Combs, Reese Curry, Ava Maguet, and Brooke Mills.
