Lady Cardinals’ struggles continue, losing skid hits four games

LONDON — After starting the season with six wins during their first nine games, Shelley Nunley’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals have hit a bump in the road.

South Laurel saw its record drop to 6-7 while watching its losing skid hit four games after dropping a three-set decision to Cumberland Homeschool Athletics Teams (CHAT).

“As usual, CHAT played a good, smart game,” Nunley said. “ The first set, we played hard back and looked really good, then we hit a few roadblocks in the later sets and couldn’t recover.”

The Lady Cardinals hung tough in each set but couldn’t come up the win.

CHAT pulled out a slim 25-22 victory in the first set before taking control of the match with a 25-22 victory in the second set.

South Laurel attempted to get back into the match, but CHAT did just enough to pull off a 25-18 win to pick up the three-set sweep.

The Lady Cardinals will attempt to get back to their winning ways Thursday on the road against Rockcastle County.
