CUMBERLAND GAP, TENN. — The defending 13th Region champion South Laurel Lady Cardinals picked up their first win of the season after a 12-day layoff, knocking off Cumberland Gap, Tenn. on the road Tuesday, 3-0.
“We had a week off with no games, but we played well coming back from our week break,” South Laurel coach Jeremy Howard said. “The break actually helped because we have been battling getting and keeping everyone healthy. Lenea French had two goals and Gracie Hoskins had one goal. Gracie done an amazing job tonight and really gave us good minutes. We looked a little sloppy at times, but I knew we were going to look a little rough.
“Hopefully, we can get all that squared away before district play next week,” he added. “We play Pulaski on Thursday and Powell on Friday.”
The Lady Cardinals opened the season with consecutive 7-0 losses but were more than ready to play on Tuesday.
South Laurel (1-2) will be back in action on Thursday on the road against Pulaski County.
