Autumn Sawyers ties Whitley County record for career goals scored during Class 2A, Section 7 semifinal win

LOG MOUNTAIN — Whitley County’s Autumn Sawyers scored three goals and finished with two assists to help guide the Lady Colonels (2-3) to a 6-0 win over Bell County on Wednesday during semifinal action of the Class 2A, Section 7 Tournament.

Sawyers also tied the Whitley County record for career goals scored during the game and now has 126 along with former Lady Colonel star Reis Anderson.

“We started the game strong and put pressure on them by scoring in the first minute,” Whitley County coach Michael Sawyers said. “We were able to maintain possession of the ball for most of the game. Our defense played an outstanding game with limiting them to only two shots.”

Norma Proffitt scored two goals while Aliya Nugent had 1 goal and 2 assists.

Corbin and Whitley County will face-off at 6 p.m. at Bell County High School on Thursday.
