MOUNT VERNON — The South Laurel lady Cardinals continue to put up a fight in their matches, but came up short against Rockcastle County on Thursday, losing, 25-20, 25-22, and 25-14.
The loss dropped the Lady Cardinals to 5-8 and they’ll be back in action Saturday with games against Clay County and Leslie County.
“Our first two sets were really competitive,” South Laurel coach Shelley Nunley said. “We were attacking balls both offensively and defensively, but had some unforced errors that put us in holes we couldn’t dig out of.
“We were proud of a few of our younger girls who stepped up when we needed them,” she added. “We’re still at a stage of finding what works best for our game, but we have plenty of good looks to keep us confident that we’re going to get where we need to be in the next few weeks.”
