Lady Colonels get back on track with three-set win over Williamsburg

WILLIAMSBURG — The defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels got back to their winning ways, handing Williamsburg a 25-23, 25-18, and 25-13.

The win improved Whitley County to 6-2 while the Lady Yellow Jackets falls to 8-3.

“Happy to get a win,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “We didn’t play very good at all the first two sets. A team isn’t going to be too successful by making as many service errors as we did — 13 service errors in the first two sets. It doesn’t matter who you are playing, can’t give away points like that.

“Williamsburg has a good, solid team and gave us all we wanted,” he added. “We have been really focusing on our girls’ communication and unity on the floor and I do think that was better, so that is progress. We only made one service error in the third set and we played much better. We used our bench some tonight with a couple of freshmen and I thought they did well for us. This was an important win for us for seeding purposes. We have great kids and we will keep working to improve.”
