Cardinals’ comeback attempt falls short in 3-2 loss to Lincoln County

LONDON — South Laurel’s dug an early hole it couldn’t get out of on Thursday, falling to Lincoln County, 3-2.

The Patriots built a 3-1 lead in the first half before seeing South Laurel’s comeback attempt fall short. Liam Zik scored both goals for Brooks Cawood’s squad.

“It was a strange night in that we had another first half like we did against Wayne County,” Cawood said. “We gave up three goals in the first half and started the second half at a 3-1 deficit. Liam Zik scored both goals and we just came up short.

“We have a hard time when it comes to playing tougher teams,” he added. “We again came out flat and you just cannot do that against good teams like Lincoln County. Caleb Whicker played an excellent match again, even saving a penalty kick. We have Estill County on Saturday and our first district match against North Laurel on Tuesday.”
