It’s already week Three, and I’m rolling to a 15-4 start which means I’m hitting 78.9 percent of my pick’ems. I’d like to reach 85 percent by season’s end, but I’m not picky.
With that said, let’s get straight to the picks.
Bell County at Letcher Central
This could be the one of the top games in the 13th Region. Letcher Central traveled to Raceland and almost came away with the win. Don’t be surprised to see if this game goes down to the wire.
Prediction: Letcher Central 26, Bell County 21
Clay County at Williamsburg
This game could have lots of fireworks. Both teams are unbeaten with Clay County coming in with a 2-0 mark while the Yellow Jackets are 1-0.
Look for both teams to score early and often and in this one, I’m going with the home team in a close one.
Prediction: Williamsburg 49, Clay County 47
Gate City, Va. at Middlesboro
The Blue Devils have one of their better teams in years but I’m looking for the Yellow Jackets to get their first win of the season.
Prediction: Middlesboro 27, Gate City 21
Harlan County at Whitley County
The Colonels could easily be 2-0 while the Black Bears are looking to get back to their winning ways. The key will be containing Whitley County’s Dee Parker. He’s rushed for more than 200 yards during the first two games of the season.
Prediction: Whitley County 28, Harlan County 13
Lexington Catholic at Corbin
The Knights are 0-2 and could very well be 0-3 after today. Corbin has won 40 straight regular season games and I don’t see anything changing this week. Redhounds make it 41 and counting.
Prediction: Corbin 35, Lexington Catholic 14
Lynn Camp at Knott Central
Coach Darrell Hendrix has done a fantastic job with the Wildcats and they’ll look to go to 3-0 tonight. It’s not going to be easy, though. Knott Central can put up points quickly. If this game was played at Mitchell Field, I’d give Lynn Camp the nod. It’s hard to win at Knott Central.
Prediction: Knott Central 42, Lynn Camp 34
North Laurel at Franklin County
These two teams hooked up in a defensive battle last season, and I look for the game to be low scoring again. The Jaguars are for real. They have one of the best offensive/defensive lines in the 13th Region, but this game is in the road which gives the Flyers an edge.
Prediction: Franklin County 28, North Laurel 10
Phelps at Jackson County
The Generals look to get back to their winning ways this week, and I expect they will.
Prediction: Jackson County 56, Phelps 7
Pike Central at Harlan
This is a game the Green Dragons need to win after suffering a setback to Clayton County last week. It is at home which is a plus for Harlan.
Prediction: Pike Central 28, Harlan 19
Pineville at Bishop Brossart
The Mountain Lions are still searching for a win and it won’t be easy this week. Bishop Brossart is undefeated while coming off an impressive 48-26 win over Ohio’s North College Hill.
Prediction: Bishop Brossart 42, Pineville 7
South Laurel at Russell County
The Cardinals are red-hot at 2-0, but don’t let Russell County’s 0-2 mark fool you. They’re not a bad team. This is a game South Laurel can’t overlook.
Prediction: Russell County 27, South Laurel 21
Somerset at Knox Central
The Panthers are searching for win No. 1, but it will be tough to get it today against a good Somerset squad.
Prediction: Somerset 28, Knox Central 14
