Wildcats drop first game of the season, fall to Knott Central, 35-18

HINDMAN — Lynn Camp’s hopes of starting 3-0 for the first time since 2018 came to an end on Friday after falling to Knott Central on the road, 35-18.

“I knew it was gonna be tough to go into another region and come away with a win,” Lynn Camp coach Darrell Hendrix said. “I’m proud of my kids for fighting thru the adversity that they had to deal with tonight. We will get back to work and prepare for Bellevue. This group plays hard and never gives up and that’s all I can ask for. We still got a lot of football left.”

The Wildcats (2-1) hung tough before the Patriots scored two touchdowns in the second quarter that allowed them to begin to pull away.

After falling behind behind 7-0 due to a quick Knott Central touchdown, Lynn Camp answered with a touchdown run by Ethan Chafin, cutting the Wildcats’ deficit to 7-6 with 5:36 remaining in the first quarter.

The Patriots answered with a touchdown of their own while taking a 13-6 lead into the second quarter.

Knott Central began to build a comfortable lead in the second quarter, adding two touchdowns.

The Patriots held a 28-6 advantage at halftime.

A touchdown by DJ Wren with 9:54 left in the fourth quarter cut Lynn Camp’s deficit to 28-12, but Knott Central answered again with a touchdown of its own to make the score, 35-12.

The Wildcats added a touchdown late in the fourth quarter but the damage had already been done.
