Colonels can’t overcome Campbellsville’s quick start, fall to 2-2 overall

CAMPBELLSVILLE — This past week has been a tough one for Matt Rhymer’s Whitley County Colonels.

After spending the first half of the week preparing for a road game against South Laurel, Rhymer’s squad had to switch things up on Wednesday and prepare for a road game against Campbellsville instead after Whitley County’s game with the Cardinals was cancelled.

The Colonels made the trip Friday with hopes of handing the Eagles their first loss of the season, but were outscored 20-0 in the first half before falling behind 28-0 early in the third quarter route to their 35-0 loss.

Whitley County’s record drops to 2-2 overall with the Colonels now switching their focus to a road game at Bell County.

The Bobcats started the season with a loss to North Laurel but have now reeled off three straight wins, including Friday’s victory over Perry Central.

Bell County has won the past six matchups with Whitley County. The last time the Colonels defeated the Bobcats was back in 2017.

Dudley Hilton’s squad leads the overall series, 43-10.
