MONTICELLO — South Laurel girls’ soccer coach Jeremy Howard was pleased with the way his team performed during Monday’s matchup with Wayne County.
His Lady Cardinals had been off nine days, but turned in a stellar effort to pick up a 2-1 win to improve to 2-3-1.
Gracie Hoskins notched a goal along with Lenea French while Tristan Brown and Hoskins finishing with an assist apiece.
“After being off another week, we came out and played well for not being able to practice last week,” Howard said. “We had a long stretch where we couldn’t find any games, but we had a lot out sick so it helped us in the fact we were able to get healthy and then with last weeks events we were not able to practice, so we haven’t got a lot of time on the ball.
“Shelby Gambrel came out huge having 21 saves for the entire match and only conceding one goal,” he added. “She really kept us in the match. Kenzie Hubbard and Gracie Hoskins also came up big when we needed it. Overall, I’m happy with the result and hats off to Wayne County. Coach Keith has that team looking really good. We still have a long way to go and I think we are starting to peak at the right time, we just have to make that final push.”
