HYDEN — The Whitley County Lady Colonels endured a three-set thriller on Tuesday, picking up a hardfought 25-21, 28-26, 26-25 win over Leslie County.
The Lady Colonels entered the game knowing the Lady Eagles would out up a fight, and managed to battle through the match to secure the win.
Halcomb’s squad improved to 10-4 with the win.
“Really proud of our team. I thought we played well considering we hadn’t played in a week,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “We have had really good practices leading up to this — my coaching staff has done a great job. “Leslie County has a very good team, had a big crowd, with a loud student section,” he added. “To be able to come into an environment like that and play well is big for our team. We squandered a lead in the second set and our backs were against the wall — had match point against us a couple times. Our girls didn’t panic and just made plays when they had to. Experiences like this are invaluable for this team. I see improvement and that’s good. I’m also very pleased with the progress of our freshmen and JV teams who also picked up wins tonight. We can build off of this night.”
Whitley County will host South Laurel on Thursday before gearing up for a tough round of games next week.
The Lady Colonels will host North Laurel before hitting the road to play Wayne County and Williamsburg.
