Proffitt scores two goals during Lady Colonels’ shutout win over South Laurel

LONDON — Michael Sawyers’ Whitley County Lady Colonels improved to 2-1 against 49th District opponents by shutting out South Laurel, 3-0, during Thursday’s road match.

Norma Proffitt scored two goals during the game’s first 10 minutes, allowing Whitley County 6-4 to build some breathing room.

Autumn Sawyers added a goal during the 67th minute to secure the three-goal victory for the Lady Colonels.

Sawyers finished with a goal and two assists while Brileigh Logan had one assist.

“We controlled most of the first  20 minutes of the game,” Whitley County coach Michael Sawyers said. “The girls were making great runs and passing well. South made adjustments after the water break and it was about 50/50 for the rest of the half. We came out in the second half and our focus was possessing the ball and make good runs. I am very satisfied with how the girls played tonight.”

The shut out marked keeper Rheagan Strickland’s second of the season, and Whitley County’s third overall.

The loss dropped South Laurel to 2-4-1 overall while snapping the Lady Cardinals’ four-game win streak over the Lady Colonels.
