Lady Colonels remain red-hot, hand South Laurel its eighth straight loss

WILLIAMSBURG — Whitley County’s win streak reached three games on Thursday thanks to a 25-10, 25-19, and 25-17 victory over 50th District for South Laurel.

The Lady Colonels improved to 11-4 overall and 2-1 against district foes while the Lady Cardinals have now lost eight straight matches while falling to 5-11 and 0-4 against district competition.

“The girls were excited to get to play a home match,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “It seems like we’ve been on the road all season. We started a little sluggish, but quickly got on track and played some really good volleyball the first set. I see glimpses of just how good this team can be, we just have to develop consistency in all facets of the game. It’s a long season, uphill climb, but we are progressing well. “We’ve been working on our team defense and it was better tonight, but still got to clean some things up there,” he added. “Our serving was really good tonight. Honestly, we just need to play matches and gain experience. We have a big week ahead with North Laurel coming in Monday and then back on the road to Wayne County and Williamsburg. The girls are excited and having fun. They will be up for the challenge.”
