Dixon’s crystal ball: Which 13th Region teams will get wins in Week Five?

I’m slowly inching toward the 80 percent mark of picking games correctly after posting a 5-0 record last week.

My overall record stands at 27-8 which is good for a 77.1 percent mark.

I’ve got 11 games this week, so let’s see how I do.

Estill County at South Laurel

The Cardinals have been off two weeks which I would normally give Estill County an edge, but can act John Hines is one of the best coaches around. He will have South Laurel ready. I expect this to come down to the wire.

Prediction – South Laurel 34, Estill County 26

Corbin at Frederick Douglass

The Redhounds face another tough opponent this week, but I just don’t think they’ll be slowed down.

Look for Kade Elam to have a huge game and show folks that he should be one of the frontrunners for Mr. Football.

Prediction – Corbin 42, Frederick Douglass 26

Harlan at East Ridge

Two 0-3 team searching for win No. 1. I’ll go with the home team in this one.

Prediction – East Ridge 20, Harlan 14

Lynn Camp at Jackson County

If you look at both teams’ scores against Knott Central, you’ll see that this game is about as even as you can get. I’m not really sure who will win but since the Generals are at home, they have to have a slight edge.

Prediction — Jackson County 44, Lynn Camp 42

Knox Central at Danville

The Admirals have fallen on hard times, and Knox Central seems to be peaking at the right time. I didn’t receive any love by my “crystal ball” pick from any Facebook folks this past week, but maybe things will change with this pick. Haha.

Prediction – Knox Central 28, Danville 20

Harlan County at Lawrence County

Should be an interesting matchup between two even teams. Since the Bulldogs are at home, they get the edge.

Prediction — Lawrence County 21, Harlan County 14

Pineville at Lee (Va.)

The Mountain Lions are searching for win No. 1 and could get it today, but it will be tough on the road.

Prediction – Lee (Va.) 42, Pineville 30

Holy Cross at Middlesboro

This is another tough matchup to pick. But since Middlesboro is at home, I’m going with the Yellow Jackets.

Prediction – Middlesboro 28, Holy Cross 21

Clay County at Leslie County

This could be a high scoring game. It’s tough to win at Leslie County and it’s even tougher to contain quarterback Landry Collett.

Prediction – Leslie County 56, Clay County 48

North Laurel at Johnson Central

The Jaguars will hang tough for a while due to possessing one of the best defenses in the 13th Region. Hat’s off to coach Steven Nelson for scheduling another top notch opponent to prepare his team for district play.

Prediction – Johnson Central 35, North Laurel 13

Whitley County at Bell County

This could be a barnburner. Both teams run the ball well and both teams play solid defense. I can’t see Dudley Hilton’s squad losing another regular season game on Log Mountain this season.

Prediction – Bell County 28, Whitley County 14
