WILLIAMSBURG — David Halcomb’s Whitley County Lady Colonels are hitting stride at the right time, winning their fifth match in a row by defeating North Laurel in three sets, 25-13, 25-11, and 25-18.
Whitley County (12-4) dominated throughout and will now shift its focus to Tuesday’s road match against Wayne County.
“Overall, this was a very good performance for our team,” Halcomb said. “Impressive win against a good North Laurel squad. I thought our preparation was really good. North presents some unique challenges for us defensively in trying to cover Reagan Isaac. She is a great hitter from all areas of the court. We have a ton of respect for her. We served at a high level and I thought we hustled more defensively tonight, which is great to see. Each one of our girls is improving and competing hard. We are getting to where we need to be.
“We are excited about our match tomorrow at Wayne County,” he added. “They are very well coached and run a solid program. I’m not sure we’ve ever gone over there and played well enough to come away with a win. We hope to change that tomorrow. Go Colonels.”
The loss drops the Lady Jaguars to 3-6. They have dropped four matches and 12 sets in a row.
North Laurel will attempt to get back on track Tuesday at home against South Laurel.
