CORBIN — Corbin coach Krystal Jones wanted to prepare her team for a deep postseason run and what better way than scheduling one tough slate.
The Lady Redhounds were challenged early and often but found a way to slip past 11th Region power Madison Central in three sets, 21-25, 25-23, and 29-27.
Corbin battled in the third set to pull off the win, improving to 16-3.
“We had a really slow start tonight and found ourselves in a hole early on,” Jones said. “But one thing about this group — they never quit. They’ve got so much grit and fight in them. While we definitely need to clean up some of the mistakes we made, I’m proud of how our defense came together and shifted the momentum. That gave our offense the spark we needed to make a run.
“Ava Maguet, our setter, did an awesome job getting the ball in our hitters’ hands, finishing with 34 assists,” she added. “Caroline Combs had a huge night too, with 14 kills that really helped us turn the game around. We’ll get back to work and look ahead to our game Thursday against North Laurel.”
The Lady Redhounds will be back in action Thursday on the road against 13th Region foe North Laurel.
