MONTICELLO — Whitley County’s four-game win streak came to an end on Tuesday after losing a four-set match, 3-1, to Wayne County.
The Lady Colonels (12-4) lost the first two sets, respectively, 25-20, and 25-18, before winning the third set, 25-19. The Lady Cardinals put the match away with a 25-13 win in the fourth set.
“Tough loss on the road for us,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said. “Got to give Wayne County credit as they played really well. They are one of the better defensive teams we have faced. It was odd in that I thought our serving and serve receive was fairly solid until the fourth set.
“Our net and short coverage defense was off and offensively, we didn’t play like we had been,” he added. “This match will help us. We had a lot of long rallies. We will learn from it and quickly move on to get ready for a district match at Williamsburg on Thursday.”
