MIDDLESBORO — Despite seeing Whitley County’s Autumn Sawyers score four goals during Thursday night’s match, Middlesboro picked up a huge region win, defeating the Lady Colonels, 5-4.
Emily Jones and Andrea Dee’s each finished the game with two assists apiece for Whitley County.
The win improved the Lady Yellow Jackets to 10-2 while the Lady Colonels fell to 6-5.
“We were just glad to play tonight,” Whitley County coach Michael Sawyers said. “The cancellations of games due to weather and other reasons has got us out of our rhythm. We have been so focused on getting ready for district that we underestimated Middlesboro tonight.
“We have several girls that are not at full speed due to injuries and throw in a red card, it was a bad combination for us. We will refocus and learn from this game and come back stronger.”
