LONDON — North Laurel ran its win streak to five games against crosstown rival South Laurel on Saturday, upending the Cardinals, 4-0.
The Jaguars’ record improves to 7-3-1 overall but more importantly to 3-0 against 49th District competition.
The Cardinals have now dropped four games in a row. They possess a 7-6-1 mark and 0-2 record against 49th District opponents
North Laurel was led by sophomore Reilly Stuber, who scored three goals, and now leads the team with 17 overall. Grant Abner also scored a goal in the win.
Keeper Jaron Edwards turned in another solid game while recording his fifth shutout out. He has allowed 16 goals this season.
Despite the four-goal win, North Laurel coach David Broyles felt his team could have played better.
“We didn’t have our best game today, but we did just enough to come away with the victory,” he admitted. “We were able to score fairly early in the first half, but missed a lot of opportunities to extend the lead. Wet conditions and just mental lapses kept the game close. We came out the second half and I felt we played better and were able to control the game better.
“We gave ourselves a little more cushion by scoring a second goal and were able to relax a little more,” Broyles added. “We played well defensively and Edwards was able to keep a clean sheet. Now we have to get ready for a very good OBI team on Tuesday.”
