LONDON — North Laurel sophomore Reilly Stuber continued his red-hot play during the Jaguars’ past five games, recording his second consecutive hat trick to lead his team to a 5-1 49th District win over Oneida Baptist while locking up the district’s top seed in the process.
The Jaguars (8-3-1) are 4-0-1 during the five-game stretch while Stuber has scored 15 goals during the span.
“We didn’t have our best game tonight, but I felt we controlled the midfield enough to disrupt their attack,” North Laurel coach David Nroykes said. “Grant Abner and Cam Anderson constantly pressured the midfield all night and were very disruptive to OBI. We found the right passes when it mattered and were able to put it in the back of the net.
“Defensively, we were strong tonight and were able to limit their chances,” he added. “Now we have to get healthy for the district tournament as I’m sure we will see OBI again and they will be ready.”
The Mountaineers entered the contest with a 13-2 record, but solid defensive play by North Laurel kept Oneida Baptist at bay the entire match.
The match was scoreless until the 25th minute when Stuber scored to give his team a 1-0 advantage. His second goal came six minutes later, connecting on a chip over the keeper, increasing the Jaguars’ lead to 2-0.
Grant Abner connected with a PL during the 55th minute, pushing North Laurel’s lead to 3-0 while Stuber added his third goal two minutes later as the Jaguars’ lead grew to 4-0.
Enrique Gabardo out Oneida Baptist in the scoreboard in the 60th minute but Malik Turner’s goal during the 66th minute secured the Jaguars’ four-goal win.
