LONDON — South Laurel got back on track in a big way, putting on a dominating effort during its 6-0 shutout win over 49th District for Whitley County.
The Cardinals (8-7-1) were led by Henri Flaegel’s five-goal effort while Liam Zik finished with four assists.
“We were able to recognize our seniors and tonight they were able to display the leadership that makes us a good team,” South Laurel coach Brooks Cawood said. “We received five goals from Henri Flaegel, four assists from Liam Zik, Brodie Gill running the midfield, and Collin McCready anchoring the midfield. It was just what we needed to lead us. Ryan Martinez opened up the scoring on a great cross from the wing.
“I was very pleased with how we were able to move the ball tonight,” he added. “We did not really have good pass accuracy last night against Corbin but tonight we were able to show we can put a complete match together. We were up 1-0 at halftime and the boys came out and did most everything with the adjustments asked of them.
“We just have to keep improving,” Cawood continued. “The district tournament is just right around the corner and I believe our squad can and will be ready.”
The six-goal loss dropped Whitley County to 5-8.
