LONDON — Shelley Nunley’s South Laurel Lady Cardinals entered Thursday’s matchup with Knox Central hoping to build some momentum before postseason play begins in a couple of weeks.
The Lady Cardinals (7-16) were able to do just that thanks to a 3-1 win over the Lady Panthers.
South Laurel won the first set, 25-12, and the second set, 25-6, before losing in the third set, 19-25. The Lady Cardinals picked up the win by defeating Knox Central, 25-17, in the third set.
“Apart from the third set, we played a controlled, consistent game, which was the goal going into today,” Nunley said. “I was impressed with multiple girls today who were noticeably focused on skills they’ve been working on this season. A few of our hitters had some of their best hits to-date, and I was especially proud of our middles for being more confident to put bigger, stronger swings in play.
“It’s a day by day game for us at the moment, and today was a good day for South Laurel volleyball,” she added. “Now we’re looking ahead to our tournament this weekend at Bell County, hoping to carry this bit of momentum with us.”
