MANCHESTER — South Laurel earned its way into Tuesday’s semifinal action of the 49th District Boys’ Tournament by defeating Whitley County, 3-1, during Saturday’s first round match.
The Cardinals (9-8-1) received goals from Drew Allen, Henri Flaegel, and Liam Zik.
South Laurel will now face-off against North Laurel on Tuesday. The two teams played back on Sept. 28 with the Jaguars pulling out a 4-0 victory.
Whitley County finishes the season with a 5-9-1 mark, going 0-4-1 during its final five games.
“First off, kudos to Coach (Michael) Branham,” South Laurel coach Brooks Cawood said. “His boys came out fired up and ready to play. We struggled and came out playing a little sloppy.
“We finally started to knock the ball around better, use some fresh legs and keep pressure,” he added. “My hope is that we can work on a couple of adjustments and come out against North with more intensity than we had tonight.”
