Making history: Williamsburg football program captures 500th win after 48-0 victory over Lynn Camp

CORBIN — The Williamsburg football notched its 500th win while coach Jerry Herron captured his 150th career victory during the Yellow Jackets’ 48-0 district rout of Lynn Camp on Friday.

Williamsburg (4-1 overall, 2-0 vs. district opponents) also ran its win streak to 21 games against the Wildcats.

The last time the Yellow Jackets lost to Lynn Camp was on Oct. 28, 2005 when the Wildcats defeated the Yellow Jackets, 67-8.

“It’s great to get the program’s 500th win,” Herron said. “So proud of our former coaches, and former and present players and our present coaches. This is home. They took a chance on me and I love it here. I’ve got 211 wins here as a coach and a player. I’m so excited to be here and excited to see this program continue to grow.”

Williamsburg scored early and often in its win, as Eli Meadors scored the Yellow Jackets’ first touchdown, giving his team an early 6-0 lead.

Reece Hatcher’s touchdown pass to Chase Meddles pushed Williamsburg’s lead to 12-0 with 7:08 left in the first half while Hatcher scored on a rushing touchdown to make the score 20-0 at the 4:48 mark of the first half.

Williamsburg added another touchdown with no seconds remaining in the first half as Hatcher hit Trenton Cornett for a touchdown to give their team a 26-0 cushion.

Hatcher added another rushing touchdown in the second half while Meadors added his rushing second touchdown of the game.
