CORBIN — The two-time defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels will get their chance to three-peat after earning their bid into the 13th Region Tournament with a 25-11, 25-13, and 25-12 win over No. 4 seed South Laurel.
The Lady Colonels dominated from the get-go, and never looked back, improving to 26-9 while the Lady Cardinals finished the season with an 11-21 mark.
“I thought our girls came in with a great mindset and were ready to play,” Whitley County coach David Halcomb said of his team’s win. “Our coaches did a good job of getting our girls prepared and focused for this match. We have respect for South Laurel and knew they had been playing well of late.
“Basically, this match enables us to get to play for two championships,” he added. “We played really well for the most part, serving and passing was solid and that’s where it all starts. Our setter-hitter connections was great all night. Our girls have come a long way this season and I’m proud of them. Looking forward to getting to coach this group on into the postseason.”
The Lady Colonels will play the winner of Williamsburg and Corbin on Tuesday in the district title game at 6 p.m.
