CORBIN — Just a week ago, the defending 13th Region champion Whitley County Lady Colonels were celebrating a three-set win over Corbin, handing the Lady Redhounds their first region and district loss of the season despite Krystal Jones’ squad winning two matches earlier in the season against David Holcomb’s squad.
The tables turned during Tuesday’s 50th District title game as Corbin improved to 3-1 against Whitley County with a four-set win to capture its first district crown since 2021.
“It’s great to bring the 50th District title back home,” Jones said. “Our girls stepped up tonight and showed us how good they can be when they bring intensity and aggression to the game. This was a great win. We closed out the season undefeated at home.
“It was awesome to see the support from our student section and fans,” she added. “The season has been a success because of the commitment and knowledge our assistant coaches bring to the table. We wouldn’t have made it this far without them. It’s time to get to work. The job’s not finished. As always, it’s a great day to be a Redhound.”
The Lady Redhounds (25-7) took charge early, winning 25-13, before picking up a 25-21 win in the second set.
The Lady Colonels (26-10) got back in match in the third set, rally to win 25-19, before Corbin sealed the win with a 25-18 victory in the fourth set.
