Three in a Row: North Laurel rallies, picks up five-set win over Jackson County to capture 49th District crown

MANCHESTER — North Laurel makes it three in a row.

James Hendrix’s North Laurel Lady Jaguars have struggled with inconsistency for most of the season, but are now hitting stride at the right time.

North Laurel (11-14) captured a season-best fourth win on Thursday while also getting some revenge after an earlier loss to Jackson County.

The Lady Jaguars won their third 49th District title in a row after surviving a five-set thriller with the Lady Generals.

“What a game,” Hendrix said. “We went back-and-forth all night and the girls had every chance to get to get discouraged and quit, but they kept pushing through adversity and brought the 49th District Championship home.

“All of the girls had clutch moments tonight, but I can’t say enough about Sofia Ramirez defense. She played great all tournament and was deservedly the MVP,” he added. “I also can’t say enough about this coaching staff. Lauren Culver has been with me since the beginning and she shares a love for these kids that is just simply amazing. She’s been a huge asset to this team.

Such a huge win for these girls. We are super proud of all their accomplishments.”

North Laurel won the first set 25-20 before Jackson County dominated second set action with a 25-12 win. The Lady Generals took control of the match in the third set, winning 25-20, but the Lady Jaguars never quit.

They managed to outlast Jackson County, 27-25, in the fourth set before pulling off a 15-13 victory in the fifth and final set.

Members of the All-Tournament team from North Laurel are Reagan Isaac, Taylor Hoskins, Tessa Monhollen, and Mia Rodriguez. Most Valuable Player is Sofia Ramirez.
