MONTICELLO — The Corbin girls’ cross country team continued its dominance of Class 2A’s Region 5 for the fifth consecutive year.
The Lady Redhounds won their fifth straight Region 5 championship, finishing with 28 points while Boyle County placed second with 70 points. Whitley County also participated in the event, finishing sixth with 153 points.
All of Corbin’s runners finished in the top 20 with Emma Massengill bringing home an individual regional championship as well with a time of 20:46.74. Teammate Hadley Elmore finished second (21:11.46) while Jaycee Frye also turned in a top 10 effort with a seventh place effort (22:32.08).
Kelsey Vanover led Whitley County with a 27th place finish, turning in a time of 26:09.67.
On the boys’ side, Corbin placed third with 75 points while earning a spot in the Class 2A State Meet. Whitley County finished sixth with 176 points.
Corbin had two runners finish in the top 10 — Ethan Slone (third, 17:27.78), and Kobe Dixon (sixth, 18:19.14).
Whitley County’s Tanner Logan qualified for the Class 2A State Meet with a 23rd place effort (19:21:73).
